Whiteface Mountain

You'll have a pretty incredible view of Whiteface Mountain right from NewVida- but if staring at it all weekend leaves you curious about the view from the top, there are a couple ways to get there! Whiteface is one of the Adirondacks' most iconic peaks and a major ski mountain, famously hosting the alpine skiiing events during the 1980 Winter Olympics.

For the adventurous, Whiteface can be summited on foot via a challenging, full-day hike of roughly 9-10 miles round trip. Expect plenty of elevation, steep and rocky stretches, and a true Adirondack High Peaks experience. Hikers say the climb is tough, but the sweeping views from the summit make the effort well worth it.

Not looking to work quite that hard on wedding weekend? You can drive up, too! The scenic Whiteface Veterans' Memorial Highway winds its way nearly to the summit, with beautiful overlooks along the way. From the upper parking area, you can take a short trail and stone steps- or even an elevator carved into the mountain- to reach the top. On a clear day, you'll be rewarded with incredible panoramic views accross the Adirondacks and beyond,

Whether you hike it, drive it, or simply admire it from NewVida, Whiteface is hard to miss while you're here.

Lake Placid Reccomendations

Olympic & Historic Sites

Lake Placid is one of only a handful of places in the world to have hosted the Winter Olympics twice- in 1932 and 1980- and its Olympic history is still a huge part of the town today. Explore Lake Placid Olympic Museum, visit the iconic Olympic Jumping Complex, or check out Mt. Van Hoevenberg, home to the historic bobsled track. It's a fun way to experience a little piece of Olympic history while you're in town!

Get out on the Water

One of the best ways to enjoy Lake Placid in the summer is right on the water! Head to Mirror Lake, located in the heart of the village and free from gas-powered motorboats, making it a peaceful spot to spend a summer afternoon, Rent a kayak, canoe, or paddleboard and take in the surrounding Adirondack mountain views from the water- or simply stroll the shoreline, take a swim, and enjoy the lake. Looking to get out on the water? Find rentals here.

Village & Dining

Take some time to wander Main Street in Lake Placid, where shops, restaurants, bars, and sweet treats line the village with beautiful views of Mirror Lake along the way, There are so many great places to discover, but here are a few worth putting on your radar!

One of our absolute favorite shops is Visions of Tibet- a unique  little store filled with jewlery, clothing, Himalayan and Tibetan-inspired goods, singing bowls, incense, gifts, and all kinds of treasures you won't find just anywhere.

When hunger (or happy hour) calls, check out Lake Placid Pub & Brewery for local brews and classic pub food, or Dancing Bears for a casual meal and drinks right in the heart of the village, Other local favorites worth exploring include Smoke Signals for BBQ, Top of the Park for cocktails, small plates, and gorgeous Mirror Lake views, and Lisa G's for a laid-back local favorite just outside the Main Street stretch. For something sweet, you can't go wrong with a scoop from Ben & Jerry's while stolling Main Street.

And this is only scratching the surface- Lake Placid is packed with great restaurants, breweries, bars, cafes, shops, and hidden gems, so wander around and find your own favorites!
